Simple answer: immediately! This is our number one, emergency service and the primary reason we offer 24/7 on call availability. With water damage, whether it’s from blown pipes, storms, flooding or some other issue, you should call Pacific NW Restoration immediately. The sooner we can start the drying process, the better. If you haven’t identified and eliminated the source of the water, we can help with that too. Our water damage restoration services are available at any time, 365 days a year… so call Pacific NW Restoration whenever you need us.
Once you’ve noticed the presence of mold you should call us right away. One of the most important factors to be assessed with mold is the extent of its presence. For example, if it’s on your wall, we need to determine if it’s inside the wall. If it’s on the floor, we need to determine if it’s beneath the floor and into the sub-flooring. With mold, you may want to contact your homeowner’s insurance company for advice, or call us right away. We’re happy to coordinate and work with your insurance company as needed. But just keep in mind mold is a health hazard, so the sooner you call us, the sooner we can begin the mold remediation and restoration process.
With significant fire loss and damage, you’ll likely be calling us after you’ve contacted your insurance company. In a major fire, there are lots of issues to coordinate, including fire and or police investigations, stabilization of the structure (when necessary), temporary housing, filing an insurance claim, etc. So often, our customers have done a lot of that prior to speaking to us.
With a minor house fire, one that does not do structural damage and is largely superficial or cosmetic, you can call us right away and we’ll give you an assessment and estimate. As with all of our services, we’re available 24/7 for smoke and fire damage restoration, so don’t hesitate to call us at any time.
This will depend largely on the scope of the damage and if you’re filing a homeowner’s insurance claim. With certain types of damage like flooding, we’ll include carpet cleaning as part of the restoration project as it will be needed to completely restore your living space. Whether it’s essential to the overall project or just a recommended add-on, we’ll cover all of this in our evaluation and estimate so you’ll know exactly what is needed and what it will cost.
As a general rule, we recommend air duct cleaning as part of any mold remediation and restoration or fire and smoke damage restoration project. Mold spores or ash and soot can easily get into your home’s air ducts and spread throughout the house. As part of a complete and thorough cleaning and restoration, air duct cleaning is key to ensuring everything is removed from your home. We also recommend that homeowners consider air duct (and dryer vent) cleaning every six months or at least once a year. It’s a simple and effective way to ensure the air quality in your home is clean and safe and that your dryer vent is free of potential fire hazards.
This is going to depend on the type of damage and how extensive it is. With water damage, especially flooding or storm damage, carpet cleaning is essential. Once we’ve fully dried the area, there will likely be dirt and outside particles left in your carpet. A deep cleaning with our high temperature steam power carpet cleaning equipment is just what your carpeting will need to be fully restored. If the water damage is minor and there isn’t a concern of anything being left in the carpet, our Dri-Eaz drying machines may be all that’s needed.
In the case of mold, if there was mold on the carpet or underlying carpet padding, you will definitely want a thorough and deep steam cleaning and treatment to fully decontaminate, disinfect, sanitize and protect your carpeting (including the padding and sub-flooring, when needed). If there is mold throughout the home, carpet cleaning may be advisable as an overall strategy to ensure it doesn’t return after remediation.
With fire and smoke damage, carpet cleaning is recommended if soot and ash have contacted the carpet or to remove the odor of smoke and fire.
One thing to be aware of is, it may be necessary to clean an entire room’s carpet to ensure a uniform look. Having a patch or small fraction of freshly cleaned, revitalized spot on a large surface of carpet that wasn’t completely cleaned will look odd. As always, we’ll offer our recommendation with our evaluation so you can determine how you’d like to proceed.
That depends on a lot of factors. Obviously, the extent of the damage is the biggest factor. When materials like drywall, carpet, furniture, etc. are damaged beyond repair, they’ll need to be replaced.
Whether or not you’re working with your homeowner’s insurance company can have an impact. We’ll work with them if you’ve filed a claim. If you’re self-paying, then we’ll work directly with you to determine what gets repaired/salvaged or replaced.
As a rule, we try to salvage as much as possible when it comes to your home and your possessions. But each project we take on is unique, so we’ll look at the options with you during our evaluation and assessment.
